Computer Literacy Overview
St. Pius X School has been a major technology forerunner in the El Paso Catholic Diocese since the 1980s. The program began more than thirty years ago evolving with the needs of our students in order to prepare them for their digital future. This subject is formally taught to the entire student body to include our Pre-Kindergarten students to our Eighth graders. The curriculum includes keyboarding so that our students may become touch typists, multimedia---integrating video as well as music through such programs as IMovie and GarageBand, Spreadsheets, Databases, PowerPoint, formatting MLA Reports and letters, as well as utilizing the Internet to provide engaging learning opportunities.
Our Apple Lab serves 30 students with a comfortable seating arrangement. The students also have access to Windows wireless laptops and other hardware. Integration of technology in all grades and subjects is encouraged so that our students will be exposed to the many facets of this digital age. Each teacher is proficient in technology using Smart Boards, laptops, and projection devices. Of course, St. Pius X maintains its focus on technology and realizes its crucial importance to each student's educational experience and successful future.
Students will continue to learn about Coding and Robotics in the lab. Sphero, which will be introduced to the students, provides a toolset that is unbounded in its potential. While coding and 21st century skills are necessary, this program also goes beyond code by incorporating robotics and technology with collaborative STEAM activities, nurturing students’ imaginations in ways no other education program can. Cues will also provide other opportunities to use coding such as Scratch while using Tynker for the Spheros.
Integrating technology in every subject is our goal this school year. Let's see what we can do together!

I am very proud to share with you that I was once a student at St. Pius X School and graduated in 1977. I graduated from Loretto Academy in 1981 with many of my St. Pius X friends who continue to be my close friends today. Fortunately, I have been given the gift of a Catholic education, and I continue to benefit from this special environment by teaching at St. Pius X for the past thirty years. I really love my school, and I have the best job in the world! I graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1986 with a BBA in Management, received my Post-Baccalaureate Certification in Education in 1997 (UTEP), and my MEd Instructional Specialist in Technology in 2003 (UTEP). Gee, I must like school!! I have one daughter, Megan, who graduated from UT Austin this past May and is pursuing her Master's degree at the University of North Texas. We enjoy watching old movies, love being at home with our dog, Lulu, and spending our time with family. By the way, I am the biggest Beatle fan in the world! Signs that You've had TOO MUCH Computing You try to enter your password on the microwave. You email your son in his room to tell him that dinner is ready, and he emails you back, 'What's for dinner dad?'Taken from guy-sports.com |
